Coimbatore is the second largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu. Situated on the banks of the Noyyal River, Coimbatore is known for its textile factories, engineering firms, automobile parts manufacturers, health care facilities, educational institutions, pleasant weather, hospitality and for its Kongu Tamil.

Aliyar Dam

Aliyar Dam was constructed in 1962 across the Aliyar river. It is located about 65 Km from Coimbatore and it is found on the foothills of Valparai. There is a hydro-electric plant which generates electricity from more than 6 rivers that inter connect a series of dams.

Thirumurthy Dam

It is situated 50 Kms from Pollachi and 20 kms from Udumalpet on the highway from Palani to Coimbatore. It has a height of 60 feet. Boating is permitted in the dam. Thirumurthy Dam was constructed in the year 1966 across the river Palar. Thirumoorthy Temple is situated at the foot of Thirumoorthy Hills adjoining the Thirumoorthy Dam

Amaravathy Dam

Amaravathy dam across the river amaravathy is 25 Kms from Thirumoorthy Dam. he dam is erected to a height of 90 feet. The main attraction of the dam is a crocodile farm. The Amaravathi dam supplies a good amount of water for the purpose of irrigation.

Udumalpet

Udumalpet is a place with a number of temples. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, it is one of the famous summer resorts in Tamil Nadu. The place is famous for cotton mills also. Poor Man's Ooty, as it is called.

Valparai is a small town in Tamilnadu has a lot of Panthers. Valparai mainly consist of Tea Gardens and Coffee Estates. Valparai Hill Station is the land of many picnic spots waterfalls and streams. TamilNadu Govt is keen to develop Valparai as a tourist spot by providing various facilities.

Karamadai Range Forest ecotourism

Karamadai is located at an easy destination reachable for people from Ooty, Tirpur, Coimbatore, Metupalayam. You can either take a cab or hop into a bus from Coimbatore to Karamadai (24 km) on the road to Mettupalayam. From Karamadai proceed via Velliankadu, Athikkadavu and Mulli. There are two bus services (1 p.m. and 5 p.m.) a day from Baralikkadu to Karamadai.Coracle rides are available only during weekends and on public holidays. Only four persons are allowed per coracle.
